Like blogs, wikis are a tool teachers can use to communicate with parents. While blogs are simpler, a wiki is a database of pages which visitors can edit live. The building blocks of wikis are the "comments" from visitors. You can generally edit a page in real time, search the wiki's content, and view updates since your last visit. In a "moderated wiki," wiki owners review comments before addition to the main body of a topic. View this short Wiki video to better understand what wikis are about.

Digital Field Trip to Plimoth Plantation - Tuesday, November 16, 2010, 10:00 a.m.
Take your class on a thirty minute online field trip to meet a Pilgrim and a Wampanoag—straight from Plimoth Plantation. Watch the field trip from your classroom—or pull a few classes together in the library to take this exciting trip to visit Plimoth. Your class will also receive a series of letters from a Pilgrim and a Wampanoag. Scholastic Online offers this amazing opportunity as well as many other Thanksgiving activities at Thanksgiving Central. The webcast takes place at 10:00 a.m., but you will need to register online at the Scholastic site prior to the webcast. For additional information about the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians, check out the Plimoth Plantation site. Want to add another dimension to your Thanksgiving instruction? Download Google Earth to your class computers and let your students take a trip from Jacksonville to Plymouth, Massachusetts to see the Plantation and other historical buildings as they stand today.
